OVER the next two months Majorca is going to be hosting two very important international summits.
Apart from next month's trilateral Gibraltar meeting, in November, the island will be the location for the first ever gathering of the Spanish-led United Nations Alliance of Civilisations. Exact locations have yet to be confirmed for both of the meetings, but only last week, British Foreign Secretary Jack Star told the Spanish delegation to the United Nations conference in New York, that Britain would like to help cover the costs of the Majorca summit. The Alliance is one of Secretary General Koffi Anan's ideas but it has been the Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriquez Zapatero who set the ball rolling and formed the alliance with the full backing of Tony Blair. Archbishop Desmond Tutu is one of the leading figures on the executive panel along with former statesmen and women from across the world.
