THE Red Cross gave assistance to 9'768 elderly and handicapped people in the Balearics last year, 26 percent more than in 2003.
Details were made public yesterday to acknowledge today's celebration of the International Day for the Elderly. Home help was sought by 1'693 people while the Red Cross needed to attend to 679 due to the 2004 heat wave, and to 667 handicapped requiring assistance whilst using the beach.
