PALMA
THE Balearic government has set up an Emergency Measures Plan to help those out of work at the end of the tourist season who have not been in work long enough to have sufficient claim for full unemployment benefit.
Some 16 million euros is being set aside for such Emergency Measures, and as a complement to State aid, the Balearic government will be offering 350 euros a month to all those workers who are not entitled to receive dole money..
Regional government spokesman, Joana Barcelo, who is also Employment minister, said yesterday at a weekly meeting of the Council of Majorca that as well as boosting funding for those not entitled to benefit, local authorities will also operate a job network whereby new positions are created by town councils to take on just such workers on a contract basis.
