PALMA BALEARIC government spokesman, Joana Barcelo said yesterday that regional ministries for Transport and Employment have formally approached Palma-based airline Spanair about continuing their operations on Majorca.

The move has come after airline management have reached an agreement with staff over 1'200 threatened job losses, 350 of them in Palma. Employment minister Margarita Najera said that the agreement comes at a cost of 20 million euros to Spanair's owner, Scandinavian airlines SAS and that the Balearic government now sees it as an opportune moment to talk about “keeping” Spanair in Palma.
