PALMA City Council was yesterday called on to launch an immediate clean-up of El Terreno.
Majorcan Socialist Party (PSM) councillors claim that urgent steps must be taken to stop the once thriving heart of the capital from further degradation while a major effort should be made to try and revive the area. PSM Palma's spokesperson Pere Muñoz said yesterday that, at the next council meeting, they will be tabling a motion proposing cross-party action be taken in the neighbourhood which has become a waste tip.
Filth, poor condition of the buildings, problems with noise at night, illegal night-time activity in the area are some of the problems making life very difficult for residents and have forced many to move out of the area, he added. The PSM believe that a good start will be for the council to deploy more police on the streets and step up street cleaning.
They've got the tools to do it, said Muñoz yesterday.
