Thousands renting properties illegally

MORE than 30'000 homes are being rented illegally in the Balearics, says a government report.
However, a survey of the rental sector by the Ministry of Housing, reveals that undeclared income from property rentals has fallen by six per cent during the last three years.

In 2004, 64.1 per cent of property rentals were not declared to the government, while this figure had dropped to 58.5 per cent in 2006.
The study also claimed that 17 per cent of properties in the rental sector remained empty between 2004-2006.
