THE Balearics will host an annual forum at which international specialists will analyse and explore the inter-action between sport and tourism, a project organised by the Balearic government and organised by the Noos Institute, directed by Iñaki Urdangarín, the Duke of Palma. The Duke, accompanied by Balearic leader Jaume Matas, revealed details of the project in Palma yesterday.
Called Illes Balears Forum, the event will be held in the Victoria Convention Centre from November 22 to 25.
Urdangarín explained that the main purpose of the forum is to encourage regions to use their sports heritage to improve their tourist potential, and to promote the creation of a permanent observatory of experts capable of contributing experiences and ideas for improving the return on tourism. Matas said that the initiative would serve to strengthen the position of the Balearics in the international tourist market, and would help lengthen the season, as well as creating new attractions, as sport offers a wide range of possibilities.
BACKING
The project also has the backing of the International Olympics Committe, the World Tourism Organisation, and the Balearic business federation CAEB.
