PALMA
THE President of the Council of Majorca, Francina Armengol, yesterday gave the leader of the Majorcan Unionist Party, Miguel Angel Flaquer, a week to rejoin the Socialist-led coalition which governs the Council.

At the beginning of last week, three rebel Majorcan Unionist members of the Council withdrew their support from the Council on the grounds that they felt “poorly treated” by President Armengol.

The move left Armengol and remainders of the coalition in minority and the opposition Partido Popular with a one seat majority.
However, Armengol, with the full support of the Balearic PSIB-PSOE Socialist party which is led by the Balearic President Francesc Antich, has stood her ground and warned that, if necessary, will continue to govern, in minority.

During last week's Council session, the UM three voted with the PP against the Council as a demonstration of its intent but yesterday, after the meeting Armengol reissued her seven-day deadline.
