STAFF REPORTER TAPALMA, Palma's Tapas Fair, now in its fifth year, was opened yesterday at the Casal Solleric in Passeig del Borne with an introductory address given by Miquel Nadal, regional Minister for Tourism.

Complementary features of music, poetry and art have meant that the event has ceased to be merely a gastronomic affair tempting people to experiment in regional food.

Last year's Tapalma food preparation competition winner, Pepe Pintos brought the words of poems by Eduardo Suarez del Real to life in a “show cooking” performance which attempted to explain the key word of the Fair - “Tapeart” - the art of tapas making. He used impromptu sketches to express his ideas in front of an array of local dignitaries and food experts.
