HIGH-PROFILE collapses, the ash cloud and strikes by British Airways and European air traffic controllers brought more people through the doors of Aito Specialist Travel Agents this year, the independent group claims.

A survey of members of the 130-strong group showed 89 percent reported more client bookings. The poll also found that Aito members' financial protection promise was a big draw for consumers.

Aito Agents' chairman Oliver Broad said: “Members tell me that people booking DIY holidays have been badly caught out by the ash cloud disruption and airline strikes, leaving them out of pocket, chasing compensation and with the inconvenience of trying to rearrange their travel plans at the last minute.”
