Palma City Council tackles the mosquito plague

PALMA City Council environmental engineers yesterday began tackling the plague of mosquitoes which has invaded the marshes which run along the rear of the Playa de Palma towards Arenal causing havoc amongst the local population.

The unusually wet and warm start to Autumn has sparked a boom in the mosquito population and following a wave of complaints from residents and businesses in the area, special units were out yesterday using biocides to put the plague down. A number of local residents have required hospital treatment for multiple mosquito bites while others have been unable to open their windows in the evenings and local bars and restaurants have claimed that the plague has forced potential clients away from their terraces.

At the end of Spring and start of Summer, the area is used to suffering a slight increase in mosquito numbers but many have never seen a plague on the scale of the one currently ravaging area at the beginning of Autumn.
