THE Balearics is prepared for earthquakes, according to interior minister José María Rodríguez.
He said it was one of the few regions in Spain which has a special plan covering the risk of earthquakes.
He added that the plan was now being further developed and would be fully operational “by next year.” The minister said that the plan complies with the requirements of the National Civil Defence Board. What the Balearic government is now doing is developing the regulations governing the plan and introducing it to all the municipalities, which will then have to adapt to its safety standards. A catalogue listing the steps to be taken in case of tremors is also being prepared, he said.
