ACCESS ROAD RAGE!

In fact, the investments to improve the access roads into and out of Palma are expected to take up some 60 percent of the expected grant from the Ministry, once the future roads agreement is signed with the Council of Majorca. Of the 431 million euros promised by Madrid, 261'386'000 will be used to improve Palma's access roads but, in addition to this, the Council of Majorca will invest 33'654'000 more.

Among the planned works is the second ring road. The budget for this is 105 million euros, a quarter of Madrid's expected investment.
It is also expected that third lanes will be added to: the Poniente motorway at a cost of 25 million; the airport motorway between the airport and the Cala Blava junction at a cost of 22 million; and the Via Cintura up to the Genova tunnel at a cost of 14.6 million. The signing of the agreement will allow the improvement of most of the access roads to the Via Cintura (24 million) and the widening of the junction between this road and the Manacor road (10 million). Also the Llevant motorway will be joined to Es Molinar and Cami Fondo (12 million), and the access roads to the road between S'Arenal and Llucmajor will be improved (7 million). Finally, the access road from the Dique del Oeste to the motorway will be renovated (9 million).

For their part, the Council of Majorca has started works costing 23 million euros in the Cami de Jesus and the Cami Fondo to widen the part between Sa Siquia and the slopes at Xorrigo. They will invest three and a half million to renovate part of the old Bunyola road; 600'000 euros to widen the junction between the airport motorway and the Via Cintura; 2.5 million on improving the Palma to Puigpunyent road; and 2 million on reforming the access roads to and from Genova, Sa Indiotera and Son Dureta.
