PALMA
THE average punter in Spain spent 93.12 euros on lotteries during the six months from January to June, new figures reveal.
This represents a rise of 3.3 per cent on the previous six moths as more and more Spaniards eye a big win as a way out of the credit crunch.
In the Balearics, gamblers are spending slightly less, with the six month increase limited to 2.7 per cent as the global financial downturn hits the region. This equals around 86.9 euros for each participant.
Euromilliones was the most popular game, with Balearic punters splashing out a total of more than 13 million euros on tickets during the first half of 2008.
