NEWSDESK THE crisis rocking the Council of Majorca caused by the decision by the Majorcan Unionist Party to withdraw its support from the ruling coalition in protest over the “poor” treatment its three councillors have received from the Council leader, Francina Armengol, is expected to be resolved over the course of this week.

Balearic government spokesperson and Minister for Employment, Joana Barcelo, said that “everything possible” is being done to reach a swift and acceptable solution to the political dispute which initially threatened to rock the Socialist-led coalitions governing Palma City Council and the Balearic government.

However, the UM made it clear that the problem lies solely with Armengol and how she controls the Council of Majorca. But, Armengol has stood her ground and received the full backing from the Balearic Socialist Party leader and President of the Balearics, Francesc Antich. Armengol said that, if the UM does not reconsider and rejoin the coalition, she will govern in a minority.
