Thousands of young adults in the  Balearics had no option but to leave the islands last year in search of work, a report by the local work department revealed yesterday.

Palma.—The recession is hitting the local work market hard and according to the report “Youngsters in the  employment  market in the Balearics”, published  at the request of the Ministry for the Economy, over 3,600 citizens aged 30 or less were left with little choice but to emigrate in 2012 so they could find work.
