PALMA Council cut off some more streets in the city to traffic yesterday in order for Central Government-funded urban improvement works to be carried out.
The City Council, which has been criticised over the scale of road works being carried out, said that one of the streets shut yesterday was Joan Massanet and Moragues, along the section running between General Riera and Blanquerna so that road surfacing could be completed. A stretch of Calle Pablo Iglesias will be closed to traffic for approximately a week, between Calles Fra Lluis Jaume Vallespir and Calixto III, so that drainage can be installed and the streets made more user-friendly to those with limited mobility. One lane of traffic and some parking bays along Calle Capitan Salom between Calles de Fra Lluis Jaume Vallespir and Rossello and Cazador will remain closed for a period of three weeks, also for drainage and to accommodate those with limited mobility.
Another road cut off to traffic yesterday for three weeks was Calle San Miguel between Plaza de Sa Porta Pintada and the Avenidas. Here, basic service work is being carried out to improve street lighting, drainage and landscape gardening. Access to private parking in Calle Cecili Metil will need to be made from Calle Francesc de Borja Moll. A parking lane will be set aside for two-way traffic flow.
