IT has been confirmed that a mosque will not be built in Marratxi because of an earthquake risk. One of the main reasons for this decision is the high risk of earthquakes, which leading experts confirmed recently, said Lunis Meziani, President of the Balearic Islam Board. A company had offered a building in the town that was going to be bought by the Islam board to build a mosque, but they finally decided against the move. We think we need a big temple for up to 500 people. It is not going to be as big as the Cathedral, of course, but it is necessary that it has a high minaret, which can be visible from different points, added Meziani. It had been reported recently that a mosque was to be built in Marratxi which could be seen from a large part of the island.
