Palma.—The Guardia Civil reported yesterday that on Tuesday, a man and a woman were arrested in connection with a wave of burglaries and an alleged “kidnapping” in the area of Campanet this summer.

According to the Guardia Civil, the couple is a member of known gang of criminals which has been responsible for a number of house robberies this year.

But these two in particular, could be charged with kidnapping.
Apparently, in July, two men and a woman called at the apartment belonging to a foreign family claiming they had come to repair their TV aerial.
The inhabitants tried to refuse them entry, but the trio stormed into the property.
One held a knife to the chest of the woman while the young daughter was restrained so she could not call for help while the woman searched the house for cash.

2'000 euros in cash was eventually found and the trio also fled with the family's passports.
The victims reported the incident to Sa Pobla Guardia Civil and Operation “Campomalo” was mounted into the kidnapping and the wave of the local burglaries. The victims were able to provide the Guardia Civil with detailed descriptions of their attackers. One the investigators recognised immediately.

However, the Guardia Civil had to bide their time and mount a close surveillance operation on the known suspect to gather enough evidence to implicate his partners in crime.

Apparently, the couple arrested this week are members of the Maldonados clan which the Guardia Civil suspect is responsible for robberies in Sa Pobla, Inca, Pollensa and Alcudia.

The investigation remains open and, in the wake of this week's development, further arrests are not being ruled out.
