Palma.—Residents in the sa Vileta neighbourhood of Palma have had enough.
Two weeks ago a three-year-old girl was knocked down and killed in the area and then early yesterday, an allegedly drunk driver was arrested after causing a serious accident just yards away.

According to residents, the area has become popular for so-called speed freaks and calle Ciri, the scene of both incidents, a race track.
Yesterday's incident happened at 1.45am when the driver at the wheel of a powerful Chrysler was apparently racing down Calle Ciri in the direction of the crossroads with calle Santa Ponsa, the scene of the tragic death of the three-year-old.

As he neared the crossroads, the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into four parked cars, one of them was a total write off.
Residents, fearing a repeat of what happened a few weeks ago, rushed out into the street and called the police who dashed to the scene.
However, the driver had tried to make a run for it but fortunately an off duty member of the Guardia Civil chased after him and the police located and arrested the driver just a few blocks away where he failed a breath test.
