ALARO council confirmed yesterday that pending final government approval, a 40 metre square annexe built at the side of British politician Mark Field's home at Alaro is due to be demolished at the end of this week.
Field allegedly built the addition to his property without a permit and without approved architectural plans. The decision was taken after a well-documented lack of response from Field. Seven months after the council first made it publicly known that they were intending to take action over the technically illegal annexe, Field has failed to respond.
Alaro's Mayor, Joan Simonet said yesterday that the British MP had been notified regularly since the beginning of the year about his property having broken local town planning laws but there was apparently no reply on any occasion from his lawyers.
Field, Conservative MP for the City of London and Westminster will have to pay Alaro Council a fine equal to 75 percent of the value of the illegal construction. According to local authorities, this could be 20'000 euros, on top of an original fine which was imposed on Field back in March. Alaro Council said that Field has one last opportunity to put his house in order.
