THE Majorcan Ensaimada Regulating Council will celebrate the Day of the Ensaimada on Saturday, to mark the 10th anniversary of the approval of the conditions which the producers of this typical Majorcan sweet pastry have to meet in order to call their produce ensaimadas. The Council, which enforces the regulations on behalf of the Balearic Government presented the commemorative programme yesterday.
Also attending the presentation was the director general of Agriculture, Joan Carles Torrens.
The celebration has the collaboration of the Balearic Ministry of Agriculture and El Corte Ingles, whose Palma stores (in the Avenidas on the corner with Calle Aragon and in Avenida Jaume III) will take part in Saturday's activities. Among the activities in the programme will be on the spot production and tasting of ensaimadas. Paintings for the third Ensaimada Day competition will also be collected.
PUPILS
This competition was run among sixth year primary school pupils in the island.
The programme will be completed with three more activities.
Firstly, the exhibition of the prize winning paintings from October 23 to 28 in both branches of El Corte Ingles in Palma.
Secondly, there will be a presentation of a book about the sensorial analysis in the control of the production process for ensaimadas on October 26.
Thirdly, the first Majorcan Cookery Contest with Ensaimadas will take place on October 27.
