THE Spanish Government has this year reinforced each of its regional delegations with a Domestic Violence Coordination Unit and each of its subdelegations with a Domestic Violence Unit.

This was done to guarantee the follow up and coordination of all activities with regard to domestic violence.
According to the Public Administrations Ministry, these new units have been put in place as part of the National Plan for Awareness and Prevention of Domestic Violence, to try to combat this serious social problem.

The Ministry added that this also complies with the promise of the General Administration to promote measures which will allow women who suffer domestic violence to improve their situation.

The various units created have been integrated into the delegations and subdelegations during 2007.
These new Domestic Violence units will have the following functions.
The integrated support and protection of victims of domestic violence, with the identification of resources needed to protect these victims, evaluation of the profiles of people who are most at risk and sharing of conclusions.

They will also be responsible for the follow up of domestic violence situations, vigilance of the cases recorded in each province, with special attention to those described as most at risk, those which have the temporary protection measures removed at the request of the victim, and those which are reported to the Special Domestic Violence Delegation.They will also make an analysis of deaths from domestic violence and do a quarterly report on domestic violence and institutional action taken, there will be statistics, they will report on available resources, action taken and proposals of action to be taken.

They will also formulate procedures for the support of the victims.
