THE Internet is now a consolidated tool for travel booking, and in Spain a staggering two million people use the internet to make travel arrangements.
In one year alone this figure has increased by 55 percent, making it a true boom in business for online hotels, airlines and travel agencies.
It is the airlines which lead the stakes in online sales, as they take a 27 percent slice of the pie in Spain, followed by direct marketing (10.9 percent) and tour operators (7.2 percent). According to the travel experts, one of the main reasons for this surge in online holiday bookings is the arrival of the cheap flights which have grown by more than 40 percent in Europe in one year. The no frills airline, Ryanair, takes second place in the most visited online airline, following Iberia, according to a report carried out by the consulting company, Nielsen Net Ratings. It seems that the internet is now one of the favourite ways to book a holiday, as people find it easy, quick and sometimes cheaper.
For the forthcoming breaks in November and December the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Madeira, Rome, Istambul, Lisbon, New York and Tunisia are heading the internet search engines and listings. Studies by the travel sector have concluded that this year has been the year for cruises and weekend breaks, with a considerable increase in the number of cultural and country holidays. Autumn is a great chance for those who love the peace, they can choose on of the historic tours offered in Spain, such as the dinosaur route in La Rioja.
