HOTELS in the Balearic Islands managed to fill 81.27 percent of their rooms in September this year, while The Canary Islands and the region of Valencia only managed 68.76 and 68.18 percent respectively. According to a nationwide tourist report on last month's activity provided by the National Institute of Statistics, the region with the least hotel bookings was Extremadura with 35.21 percent measured against a national average of 63.5 percent. Across the country, 7.4 million tourists lodged in the country's hotel establishments, of which more than four million were Spaniards with the remainder being foreign nationals. The reservations totalled 28.3 million overnight stays with an average visiting period of 3.8 days. Some specific holiday destinations registered almost completely full such as Benidorm in Alicante, and Alcudia in the Balearics.
