ELECTRICITY cuts in the three month period from June to August, came to just 0.31 hours, a drop of 64.7 per cent compared to the same period in 2001 and the best result ever for Gesa-Endesa in the quality of electricity service in the Balearics. According to a company spokesman, this improvement in the continuity of the supply is due to major investments (4'000 million during the last five years) made by Endesa in its installations for electricity distribution in the Balearics, Andalucia, Valencia, Aragon, Catalonia and the Canaries. The investment has given the system more stability and reduced the number of supply interruptions. Also, this historic improvement reached in the Balearics last summer was achieved in spite of the various heat waves which were experienced at that time, during which records for electricity demand were broken. At the same time the company said that this favourable improvement in the electricity supply had been complemented by the improvements in distribution management, thanks to the development of various programmes within the Directing Plan for Quality in the Endesa Network, and the optimisation of the operation of their electricity networks. Gesa-Endesa said that these positive indicators for the quality of service in the Balearics had been achieved within the framework of a great increase in demand. With regard to this, it is worth remembering that on July 28 this year a record electricity demand was experienced in the Majorca-Minorca system, which was 1030.3 megawatts.
