THE Pueblo Español in Palma will host the 2nd International Tapas Fair Tapalma between October 31 and November 5.
This year it's bigger and better (and longer) than ever with more firms taking part because the first edition went so well, with some 18'000 people attending in three days. There will also be a tapas competition between all the restaurants taking part. All people attending the fair will be able to taste these. Prizes will be awarded in three categories: originality; traditional values; and use of local ingredients. Sources from the Council of Majorca, who are supporting the event, were represented at the presentation of the fair by their head of Economy, Miquel Angel Flaquer, who said he considered that there was a lack of imaginative things in Palma.
They should be taking advantage of the immense possibilities the city has to offer, especially on a gastronomic level, he added, saying that he is convinced that tapas will become more integrated into people's eating habits. A total of 18'400 people visited the first edition of the Tapalma Tapas Fair, which took place between October 27 and 30 2005 in the Pueblo Español, in which some 27 bars and restaurants took part.
