A REPORT on Information Technology in the Home published last week by INE, the National Institute for Statistics revealed that 54.07 percent of purchases made by people in the Balearic Islands via the Internet over the past year were related to travel tickets or holidays. Following on down the list of popularity in purchasing on the Internet, were tickets for shows and live entertainment (15.5%), clothes or sports gear (13.14%), products to use in the home (11.18%) and electronic equipment (11.4%). In total, 59'683 Balearic citizens confirmed having made some purchase on the Internet during this peiod. People interviewed for the study who didn't buy anything via the Internet said they preferred to see exactly what they were getting in a shop. This group also voiced concern about security on the Internet, especially in relation to credit card details and personal privacy. The same study also showed that 49 percent of people who connected to the Internet on the Islands had had problems with viruses affecting their computer systems over the past year, and fifty percent acknowledged receiving e-mail that was neither asked for, nor wanted.
