THE Extraordinary General Meeting of EMAYA (Palma's water company) yesterday decided to keep the price of drinking water the same, without even applying the Consumer Price Index rise. At the same time it was agreed to raise the price for sewage and rubbish collection by three percent.
The decision by the meeting not to increase the price of drinking water in 2007 will benefit numerous families and those groups whose income does not exceed the minimum wage.
As for the other charges, for sewage and the rubbish collection service, these are to be increased by three percent.
To be precise, the fixed charge for sewage will go from 0.75 euros per cubic metre to 0.77 euros per cubic metre.
The charge for the rubbish collection service will increase to 6.10 euros per month from the 5.94 euros per month which it cost up until now.
Sources from EMAYA said that these charges corresponded to those of the Council of Majorca, who have approved an increase of four percent for 2007.
