THE Rotary Club has organised a special fund-raising evening at Read's Hotel in Santa Maria where, under the guidance and watchful eyes of Mark Fosh, some volunteers among the guests will be given a brief cooking lesson, followed by the meal which, as usual, will be of the highest standard. Tickets are 50 euros per person, excluding wines, and half the proceeds will go to the Ses Minyones orphan's home, in order to provide the children with a joyful Christmas heralded by the annual visit of a generous Santa Claus. For tickets, please contact Petra Zerbst on 661 487633. Non-Rotary Club members are most welcome, a spokesman for the organisers said, promising a memorable evening, not only for the participants, food-wise and socially, but more importantly for the recipients at the orphanage. Since 1993, the Rotary Club of Calvia has dedicated most of its fundraising to helping needy children. Club members work on various projects to raise funds for non-profit organisations like Ses Minyones, Nazaret, Joves Navegants and the Internationanl Trust Fund for De-mining and Mine Victims Assistance. The Rotary Club was the main recipient of the donations given by the individual owners of the 18 yachts which took part in the Super Yacht Cup last month. In this way, 8'500 euros was raised for the Joves Navegants Charity, which introduces disadvantaged youngsters to sailing.
