016 abuse hotline handles 4´800 calls

THE 061 abuse hotline which was first launched in September 2007, has handled a total of 4'887 calls over the past three years.
The help line was set up as part of a national initiative to help the victims of physical or verbal abuse.
The services offered included judicial, social and personal help to mainly female victims of domestic violence.
The 016 number is operational 24 hours a day and 365 days of the year and the service is multilingual.
The telephones are staffed by highly trained professionals who speak French and English in addition to all the regional Spanish languages such as Catalan and Basque.
