SOME 250 service stations in the Balearics will take part in the strike by the sector which has been confirmed for today and tomorrow.
This decision was taken after the last meeting between the unions and the bosses to negotiate a new agreement ended in disagreement.
According to the President of the Service Stations Association on the islands, Jesus Sales, the unions are calling the strike to protest about the intention of the bosses associations CEEES and AEVECAR to increase the annual working hours, and not to reduce them to eight hours a day. The unions met the Spanish Confederation of Service Station Owners (CEEES) and the Spanish Fuel Retailers Group (AEVECAR) to try to reach an agreement, but the bosses would not change their stance. The unions want wage increases above the Consumer Price Index for the next few years.
The bosses offered to pay 60 euros for public holidays, but without a day off in return and at the same time proposed an increase in the annual working hours, which are established at 1'760 hours, according to union representative, Miguel Angel Pacheco. The unions said that an agreement with the bosses is impossible with this proposal. Minimum services will be provided by 49 petrol stations in the Balearics.
