Madrid assures it will be financing the Bay of Palma tram

STAFF REPORTER CENTRAL Government's Minister for Public Works, Jose Blanco gave assurances yesterday that an agreement for financing the Bay of Palma tram project will be signed with the Balearic Islands “within the next few weeks.” Speaking in Palma on the Spanish government's policy to tackle recession accompanied by regional President Francesc Antich, Blanco added that the agreement is “nothing more or less” than a confirmation that Central Government is continuing to meets its commitments. The Minister, who is also General Vice-Secretary of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), said that some of the financing arrangements between the Balearics and Central Government have their roots in previous terms of office.
