THE impressive and innovative 71 metre grey yacht could easily be mistaken for a military ship, but it in fact is owned by Charles Simonyi, a senior programmer at Microsoft, and was spotted anchored in Port Andratx on Sunday afternoon. The superyacht Skat (which means darling or tax in Danish) is exactly what the Microsoft Excel guru wanted.
Being a lover of angular forms and outdoors living, there is not one curve in sight and lots of expanses of glass.
The yacht houses twelve crew, ten guests, a library, gym, a helipad, jacuzzi, workrooms, captain's stateroom and multiple garages for high-tech toys amongst other things. Many local residents in the port were surprised at the sight of the huge yacht anchored metres from the restaurants and bars, with the yacht's helicopter buzzing around. So far this year the owner has had some good trips out and about aboard Skat, including a stint in Barcelona in May, and a New Year celebration with Martha Stewart in attendance in Malta.
