TORRENTIAL rain and hail storms failed to dampen the enthusiasm of thousands of people who attended Majorca's top agricultural fair yesterday.
Dijous Bo in Inca is the island's premier autumn fair and features livestock exhibitions, arts and crafts markets and offers visitors the chance to sample local culinary delights.
This year's event provided the sweet taste of success for members of the local bakers and confectioners society (La Asociacion de Panaderos y Pasteleros de Baleares).
Their succesful attempt to prepare a massive ensaimada (pictured above), stretching almost 15 metres across, won them a place in the Guinness Book of Records. They eclipsed the previous best held by bakers in Argentina by assembling the world's biggest ensaimada, using 110 kilos of sugar, 1'400 eggs, 400 kilos of flour and 400 kilos of butter.
The enormous Inca ensaimada, a Majorcan local delicacy, was on view in the town square. It took 10 days to mix and prepare and was assembled in scores of 80 centimetre pieces.
