NATIONAL Police officers arrested three men aged between 23 and 24 yesterday in connection with the stabbing of a Portuguese man, Jorge Dinis Magalhaes, 19, in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was stabbed in the chest outside a club in Can Pastilla.
The arrests were confirmed by police chief Elicio Amez, who also said that they appear to have found the murder weapon.
He said that more details would be released today and tomorrow.
The victim was stabbed at around 4.50am on Saturday morning.
According to neighbours, the fight started outside a club.
Later the victim, who was already fatally wounded, was seen walking alone in a cul de sac near the bar.
According to a witness, the victim took a few steps and then collapsed against a wall, where he bled to death, in spite of the efforts of the paramedics from the 061 emergency service to revive him. One resident said that she saw the young man, who was wearing a white jacket and jeans, shouting for somebody to help him, while on the other side of the street a group of young men ran off in different directions. Jorge Magalhaes moved to Majorca seven years ago, to join his mother, who has lived here for nine years and works in a bar in Arenal.
She told the media my son was a normal boy, he liked football and had played for Ferriolense. I only had him, and now I am alone.
Her son completed his studies in Majorca and worked for a car dealer.
His mother said that he had gone out to Can Pastilla with two friends, as they did every weekend. The two friends, who managed to escape the gang of attackers, have been questioned by the police. Both his mother, and his uncle, Manuel Pinto, criticised the club for opening as usual on the following night.
A funeral service will be held in the Son Ferriol church tonight at 8pm.
