Former member of the Valldemossa group dies

FRIENDS and family of the late artist and member of the famous Majorcan musical group Els Valldemossa, Bernat Estaras, also known as Reüll, gathered at the Valldemossa crematorium yesterday afternoon to pay their respects to Estaras who died in the early hours of yesterday morning aged 73.

Estaras was admitted to hospital for treatment a few days ago but many of his close friends, some of which had been in contact with him over the weekend, were clearly shocked by the news. The Els Valldemossa group was world famous and toured the globe playing traditional Majorcan folk music while helping to promote the island overseas whenever possible. They even performed with Michael Douglas at the World Travel Market in London.

Yesterday, many of his close friends including the island's top musicians, artists and politicians joined members of the family at the crematorium. A funeral will be held at a later date, probably Monday, so that his brother, who is currently on tour in India, can attend.
