THE Orchesta Lirica will today perform their first Christmas concert in Consell accompanied by the infant and youth choirs. This is the first of five Christmas concerts to be performed across the island. Four of the traditional Christmas concerts will take place in Consell, Campos, Capdepera and Binissalem and the fifth in Palma.
In former years everything has taken place in the Majorcan capital, this meant that the people in other towns and villages were obliged to travel to enjoy the shows, according to Dolça Mulet, head of the Council of Majorca's cultural department. The youth choir, directed by Pere Victor and consisting of more than 35 young people between the ages of 16 and 21, sings today with the Orchesta Lirica. The infant choir, directed by Maria Mir and composed of more than 50 children between the ages of 9 and 16, will sing with the Orchesta Lirica in the concerts in Campos (December 10), Capdepera (December 16), Binissalem (December 20), and in Palma (December 23), where they will sing with the youth choir. The director general of the Fundacion Teatre Principal of Palma, Gabriel Coll, said that because the concerts are so good there have been many times when demand for tickets has outstripped supply.
