STAFF REPORTER THE town council in Santanyi has increased the presence of police “tutors” in the local secondary school due to the success they have had in keeping teenagers away from drugs and crime.

The role of the police tutor is an educational, not a legal one and their presence in schools is to dissuade youngsters from knuckling under to peer pressure by taking drugs and getting involved in petty crime. The tutors also lecture on road safety.
