THE environmental group GOB has begun to supply interested citizens with standard forms to protest to the Balearic Government about the enhancement of the incinerator which was put forward in the Master Plan for the Disposal of Domestic Solid Waste. The forms have to be sent to GOB before December 21, the environmental group confirmed in a communique. This initiative is part of their campaign to stop the modification of the incinerator which will double its capacity. Doubling the capacity of the incinerator is totally unjustified when the recycling centres are under-used by 15 to 20 percent of their capacity, a spokesman said. Another of the matters GOB are against is the intention of the Balearic Government to use toxic substances from the incinerator in construction works, which they say is a risk, as much for the workers as for the environment. GOB also referred to the selective collection and recycling of waste and said that it wouldn't be extended because, by 2013, the Plan destined 85 percent of waste for incineration.
