THE Balearics, together with Madrid and Catalonia, are the preferred destinations of the Spanish for their Christmas holidays, according to flight reservations made via the agency Terminal A. Some 65 percent of Spaniards who reserve a flight with Terminal A opt for a national destination to spend Christmas.
With regard to international flights, 80 percent of those booked were for Europe and just 20 percent for long haul flights.
During this holiday period South American countries have 9 percent of the international flight market (booked by the Spanish), while the USA and Canada have 6 percent, and Africa, Australia, Asia and the near East have 5 percent of the flights booked during October. As for national destinations, Madrid and Barcelona are the favourite cities for the Spanish at this time of year, although the Balearics (with 9 percent) and the Canaries (with 8 percent) continue to be destinations very much in demand from travellers who wish to go somewhere warm in the Winter. However, Paris continues to be a star city for the Spanish, as well as eastern Europe which has become a fashionable destination due to new offers by national airlines who fly to this part of the continent. France continues to be the country most visited by Spaniards who wish to travel to another country.
