Palma—The 112 emergency hotline was kept busy over the New Year celebration answering a total of more than 700 calls.
The most serious incident involved a 25-year-old man who was seriously injured after being run down by a vehicle along the Via Cintura ring-road in Palma. The man was on foot when he was hit by the vehicle. He was rushed to hospital where he is in a serious condition.
Other incidents included six fights, two of which were domestic and four others took place in bars and restaurants. There were a total of five traffic accidents. Eleven people had to be treated in hospital due to the affects of excessive alcohol abuse and five for drug-related incidents.
