Palma.— Marking the Pascua Militar, a military ceremony held every 6 January, the Commanding General of the Balearics, Casimiro Sanjuan, said that the primary task of the armed forces this year is to make the most of its resources and maintain its sense of service to society.
The Pascua Militar ceremony was establiashed by King Carlos III to mark the occasion of the taking of Minorca from the British by a Franco-Spanish fleet of 52 ships in 1782. SanJuan stressed that the military is facing the same financial problems as the rest of Spain and therefore must do the best it can with the finances and resources it has at its disposal.
