Palma.—The former Partido Popular President of the Balearics and Spanish Minister for the Environment, Jaume Matas, has had a nine month jail term suspended pending the decision by central government on whether to grant him a pardon or not.
The decision to suspend the sentence was made yesterday by the Balearic High Court and it means that Matas, who is deeply embroiled in the Palma Arena corruption investigation into why the construction of Palma’s velodrome went 100 million euros over budget and where the money went, will remain out of prison, on this count, until central government reaches its own decision.
