I know plenty of proud Scots on the island who want to vote in this year´s Scottish independence referendum. Infact, one furious Scot told me yesterday that he would return home if Alex Salmond´s proposal on a breakaway from the United Kingdom was successful. He is obviously furious that he can´t vote and feels he is being discriminated against because there are thousands of Scots across the globe who want their say. Now, obviously there are strong feelings over this referendum and it can be a question of the heart ruling the mind. Now, obviously Salmond is right. The referendum should only be extended to those Scots who live in Scotland. Granted, an independent Scotland would have a major affect on Scots living abroad but at the same time it should just be a matter for all those who live in Scotland and could wake-up and find that they are no longer part of the United Kingdom. It would be a great shame if Scotland did breakaway and I do believe that the No vote will succeed but the referendum is a good idea. Now I am not part of the 60 percent of English people who believe that Scotland should get independence. The union does work and Scotland is a key player within the United Kingdom. We the English, must refrain from calling all people from the British Isles English and the Scots must try and give Andy Murray a bit more personality and ensure that Gordon Brown never gets a seat in government. But apart from that, it is nice to have those north of Hadrian´s Wall as part of the United Kingdom , after all we did win Wimbledon didn´t we!
