TEAM Sky and Sir Bradley Wiggins are giving Majorca some priceless publicity at the moment but it is a pity that the Balearic government has not realised what fantastic promotion this is for Majorca. Coverage of the Sky Team´s media open day in Alcudia on Tuesday was broadcast across the globe and Majorca´s name was in lights. You would have thought that the local authorities would be working closely with Team Sky and all the other international teams which will be competing in the Tour of Majorca this weekend. Cycling has become a major sport in Britain and Germany and this island has become a major venue for the sport. It is also a growth industry and is an ideal sport for the winter months in Majorca. Already specialised holiday cycling packages are being offered in Britain and some hotels in the north of the island are being kept open solely because of cycle tourism. I have always thought that Majorca is a lucky island and it has certainly been lucky when it comes to Team Sky and cycling. I would urge the local authorities to grab this priceless piece of promotion with both hands. The last two Tour de France champions, Sir Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome have both trained on Majorca. Why isn´t the Balearic government singing this state of affairs from the rooftops? It is just the time of promotion that Majorca needs at this time of the year. So, President Bauza and your tourism team now is the time to get on your bike!
