Palma.—The number of Balearic residents over 55 years of age who are unemployed has risen sharply since the beginning of the recession.
There are now 15 times more people in that age group out of a job than in 2007. Latest figures revealed yesterday by Asempleo, an association focused on bringing companies to work together and defend workers’ rights, showed the numbers are now up to 14,800 compared to 1,000 six years ago.
It means that 16.4 percent of citizens aged over 55 living in the Balearics are now out of a job.
