Over three million tourists visited Spain last month, a considerable increase from last year’s numbers, but for the Balearics, January was far from positive.

Palma.—The islands welcomed almost 88,000 visitors during that period, around three percent of the country’s total, but far less compared with January 2012 (-11.3 percent).
The news revealed in a report published yesterday by the Ministry for Tourism are set to open yet again the debate on whether plans to boost Winter tourism are being taken seriously  enough by the relevant local authorities. And the results could have been far worse if not for the “help” of the British market. The number of tourists from Great Britain who visited Spain and the Balearics went up by over nine percent, the second highest increase  only behind France.
