EXPAT Scots living on Majorca can´t vote in the independence referendum and I sincerely doubt that Britons living in Spain will be able to vote in the referendum on Britain´s membership of the European Union if it ever takes place. This is an outrageous state of affairs. Now, some say that Scottish leader Alex Salmond has barred expat Scots from voting because he believes that they will vote No and hijack his independence dream. Talk about jumping to conclusions. The Scots I have met on the island are divided over independence but are all furious that they can´t vote. In some ways, Ican see their point. Their country could be moving into unchartered waters and they do not get a say. You have to remember that it will hit the Scottish community in Spain hard if Salmond is successful. So really they should have their say. I also believe that expat Britons should be able to vote in the European Union referendum if it ever takes places. Britons living abroad in Spain have first hand experience of how the European Union makes their lives easier. If Britain left the EUwe would have to apply for work permits and we would lose some of our rights such as being able to vote in council elections and discount travel to the mainland and the other Balearic Islands. I would urge both Salmond and Prime Minister David Cameron to address this issue. On two such importants topics all Scots and all Britons should be able to have their say to show that democracy is at work.
