The Council of Majorca has a number of snow ploughs at the ready in the mountains and they were all busy yesterday morning clearing the roads.
Snow had been forecast above 900 metres and the weather centre was not wrong.
Maria Jose Guerrero, spokesperson for the Balearic met. office confirmed yesterday that 10 centimetres of snow fell over night and that the last snow fall was on 30 January, but only three to four centimetres fell.
"Yesterday’s dump was the heaviest of the season to date," she said.
Guerrero also forecast that the snow could return this morning but above 1,100 metres as the cold front slowly moves away from the region.
Last week she did warn that the start of Spring would bring some periods of extremely unsettled weather and that temperatures would fall sharply.
The weather will continue to be unsettled today with isolated showers and the possibility of some heavy storms, especially this morning because conditions should begin improving as we move into the afternoon when skies are forecast to clear.
However, it will continue to remain extremely windy with the region in yellow alert for gale force winds.
So, if you are planning on catching a ferry, check with the shipping company before heading to the port because maritime connections will be disrupted.
For some, nevertheless, yesterday’s snowfall did not disrupt things .
A number of people headed up into the mountains to have some fun in the snow while hikers, in their shorts and T-shirts were undeterred and carried on with their plans as usual.
